Wednesday Run 20th May (Handicap Time Trial)

As we mentioned last week the track is closed for a few weeks in order to enable the lining, assuming they get some favourable weather. This week we are going to do a run in the Ballincollig Regional Park using the BRP Park Run route. The plan is to do a 5km time trial with a bit of a difference. Hoping to a handicap reverse time trial, the slowest (for sensitive souls, those who are less fast) runners will be let off first then the others afterwards at staggered intervals. The handicap times will roughly be based on the times the groups have been running in the track intervals. So you know who to blame if the times are all wrong!

We will meet at the start location for the Ballincollig Park Run, here at 7:00pm. There is a small carpark at this location but there is also a large carpark at the new church just outside the park gates about 100m from the location.

Session Format

Short warm up

4 x strides

Division into start groups (x 4)

Handicap 5km time trial (two laps of the park run course)

Cool down

As mentioned above there is plenty of parking either in the carpark at the start location or in the church carpark about 100m away. For those cycling to the location I (Brendan) will be at the start throughout the TT but is would be safer to take a lock as well, if you have one. Looking forward to having a good group turn up, hopefully it will be a bit of fun as well as a hard run. If anyone hasn’t done the park run before the course is mostly tarmac paths with some gravel path as well. Just to be aware there will be other park users about, other runners, dog walkers, ordinary walkers and children about so please have respect for these others, no barging past or shouting at people to get out of the way.
