Hopefully the worst of Storm Chandra will have passed by tomorrow evening, we will keep an eye on the forecasts and post if there is any change. As a general rule we just consider yellow warnings as normal Irish winter weather but we are obliged to cancel events for orange warnings. According to Met Eireann the weather looks promising for tomorrow evening. The session this week is one that we put on at least once every block on the track, it is the mix of 400s, 800s and finish with a 1600m. The object of the session is to set a pace over the 400s then hold that same pace through the 800s and the 1600m. The usual issue is that people go out too fast for the 400s then can’t hold the pace through the rest of the session.
Session
Easy warm up
Dynamic stretch
Strides
4 x 400m at a controlled pace with 200m easy recovery
2 x 800m at the exact same pace as the 400s with 400m easy recovery
1600m again at the same pace
Cool down

Usual arrangements, session starts at 6:00pm sharp on the Sonia O’Sullivan track in the UCC Sports Facility on the Mardyke. There are dressing room and toilet facilities in the pavilion. There is no parking allowed inside the facility but there is some on-street parking in the surrounding areas, Mardyke Walk, Lee Road and the small carpark opposite the Bean and Leaf Cafe at the Crows Nest.
We keep saying this but it is worth it, the session is suitable for all levels the group divides into three sub-groups of roughly equal ability so no one gets left behind. We have had quite a few of our newer members join the session over the last few weeks and they seem to be enjoying it. Even if you are a bit unsure come along and give it a try.
