There are 2 posts still unfilled for the Lost Sheep Middle Distance Race in September. As of yet there is no administrator or chief marshal. The administrator manages the entries, gives the final competitor lists to the chip company and arranges entry swaps. The administrator is needed on the evening prior to the race at registration but is then free to race. The chief marshal as the name suggests looks after organising all of the marshals on the day of the race and assigning marshal locations prior to the race. Usually the chief marshal will have a swim marshal, a bike marshal and a run marshal to assist. It is not possible for the chief marshal to race. These posts are an ideal opportunity for anyone interested to see first hand what goes into race organisation. If interested please contact admin@corktri.com

Cork is anxious to really welcome new members to the club and understands that people might like to “try” some of the club sessions before signing up. Unfortunately as with all sports these days insurance is an important issue. Insurance for people taking part in Cork Triathlon Club activities is through membership of Triathlon Ireland. Membership and insurance cover runs from January to December each year. The club cannot take the risk of claims being made against it as a result of allowing non-TI members partake in club events. For this reason the club has to insist that everyone taking part in club events must be a current member of Triathlon Ireland either full member or associate member. It is only possible for intending members to “guest” at the training events for a maximum of three sessions, after that they must be members of both Triathlon Ireland and CTC. At all of the club organised events someone from the club will have a guest sign-on sheet, non-members taking part must sign in. Membership and insurance cover runs from January to December so even people who were members for 2011 are not covered if they have not yet rejoined for the current years. Membership of Triathlon Ireland is €53 for full membership or €18 for associate membership. If associate membership is taken race licenses will have to be purchased for every race entered. http://www.triathlonireland.com/membership.html

A total of €500 was raised for Simon – thank you all for your contributions and to Mary Cotter who gave a gift voucher for a massage as a spot prize – this was raffled off and Louise Keane was the lucky winner. If there is sufficient interest in a similar event in the future, we might do something similar at one of the club time trials starting in May.

People who are not members of the Cork Tri Club are welcome to try out the Sunday cycles for 1 or 2 sessions – note the tips below.

In order for them and us to be insured by Triathlon Ireland for 3rd party, they must sign the TI Guest Sign-on sheet which the cycle leader will have.

More Questions? http://www.bikeradar.com/fitness/technique/article/beginners-cycling-questions-answered-30612

We will have an information evening/social in early February

Sunday Cycles. A few tips for us all:·
You MUST wear a helmet, no and if’s or buts end of.

We recommend you use a racer or flat handlebar racer/hybrid. No mountain bikes or time trial bikes for beginners.

Your bike should be in good running order, especially brakes – nobody will want to cycle behind you if they think something is about to break on your bike.

Basic cycling skills required – you must know how to use your gears and breaks.

We will have a group that does not go super-fast but in the interest of everyone, you should be able to cycle at least 40km non-stop in 2hrs. That works out at 20kph. To newcomers, this might seem like a lot but it is really very achievable. If in doubt, grab a friend and go for a 2hr cycle!·

Don’t be late, 9am is the start time, being early IS allowed!! The cycles have to start at this time so people can get home on time so they will be let out again the following week!!!·

Please bring:

Tools: 2 tubes, Pump, Tools to change a flat

Food: At least 1 bottle of drink (water/energy drink), at least 2 Energy gels/bars/bananas

Money: €5 for tea/coffee and a sconeo Phone: Mobile phone in a zip lock bag to stop it getting wet. It is a very good idea to put an ICE (In Case of Emergency) phone number either entered into the phone (if there is no lock) OR written onto the back of the phone.

Cycling Etiquette. http://www.bikeradar.com/fitness/article/technique-the-secrets-of-group-road-riding-28701/

You must be at least a 2012 associate member of Triathlon Ireland for insurance purposes
