What a weekend for the sport of Triathlon in Youghal last weekend with former club member Chris Mintern coming home in first place with an incredible time of 8 hours 38 mins. We had 25 club members competing the half Ironman on Saturday enduring grueling heat in what was a warm up for the main event! CTC were awarded 1st place in the Ironman 70.3 Tri Club Rankings
Cork Tri had 17 club members who completed the full distance in similar conditions along with some torrential rain thrown in! Congratulations to
Jason Nichol, Eddie Butt, Eric Lucking, David Kane, Derek Lane, John Comerford, Sean Kinsella, Maura Barry, Denis Sheehan, Brian Sheehan, John Kavanagh, Stephen Mohally, John McDonnell, Conor Fenlon, Michael O’Loughlin and Michael Collins (please let me know if i have missed anyone)
A special mention has to go to Neil Creedon on a fantastic achievement by winning his Age group.
A massive thank you to all club members who came out and supported their fellow club athletes. To share a message from one member who said. ” I cant really emphasis enough how much all the support meant to me. It really made such a huge difference, even when i was feeling good it picked me up, It honestly got me over the finish line!”
Finally we should also recognise the work of our club coaches who play such a massive role in getting our members to the start line….from swim coaching and track work, to offering advise on nutrition and tapering and all other aspects of triathlon, they play a huge part in our members getting to the start and finish line. Well done evenone… a proud weekend for CTC.
