Rebel Rising Triathlon

Hi,

We regret to inform you that we are cancelling this year’s Rebel Rising Triathlon scheduled to take place in Cork City on Sunday 14th August.

river_leeSincere apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause you. We will organise a full refund for those who have entered the race – please note that the refunds won’t start until August as the Triathlon Ireland finance team are away.

The support, enthusiasm and good will that we have encountered for the race has been overwhelming and we are disappointed not to be able to deliver this triathlon to you and Cork City. The vast majority of the organising was complete but there were a few outstanding issues with road safety that took a lot longer than anticipated to work out and finalise. It would be a very difficult task to get these ironed out to our satisfaction in the next 3 weeks while also paying attention to family and work. We are going to continue to work on those last few items to hopefully bring the Rebel Rising to life in 2017.

Thanks to all those who entered the race, to our families and friends, the race committee, the Cork Tri club, Triathlon Ireland, Cork City Council, Cork County Council, Sgt Niall Daly, ESB Networks, The Irish Red Cross, Phoenix Kayak club, The Edge Sports Shop and all those who offered support and assistance.

I would recommend considering The Edge Sports Blackwater Sprint Triathlon if you are looking for an alternative quality local race on that weekend (Sat Aug 13th).

We are going to mark the date with a swim, bike, run on the route anyway – not an official race, just unofficial fun – so feel free to join us on Sunday 14th August @ 8:30am where we will swim 1500m in the Lee, have a 40k group cycle and a 10k trot around the Lee road. We’ll provide tea, coffee, cake and biscuits afterwards and will look after your bike during the swim and run stages. We’ll have a donation box for Down Syndrome Ireland if you wanted to donate to that charity which is close to Jason’s heart. Let us know @ rebelrising@corktri.com if you can make it. We’ll follow up on this with those who are interested.

Dream big, shoot for the stars and hope see you in the water or on the roads soon.

Ivan and Jason (Joint Race Directors)
