Just some more information on the charity aquathon this coming Thursday June 16th. The charity is Down Syndrome Cork, the main organizer is Jason Pierce who is doing the Tour de Munster in aid of this charity. The event will he held at the Dock Beach in Kinsale.
Registration will be at 7:00pm for a race start at 7:30pm, we have had a lot of enquiries through personal contacts, email and Facebook; so just to state the Aquathon is open to all, CTC members and non-members, we particularly invite athletes form our neighbouring Tri Clubs, Kinsale, Cobh, Crosshaven and West Cork Tri. The event is open to JUNIORS. We will ask non-Cork Tri members to sign a guest sheet and ask a parent to sign for juniors.
The race will be run as a 2 person relay, teams will be arranged on the evening with the intention of having even teams rather than any “super” teams. This is intended as a fun event but everyone knows how serious fun events can get!! The format will be that each realy team member does a swim, run and then hands over to their relay partner (touch hands) who repeats the swim run. Each swim will be approximately 500m (out to the swim pontoon, left to orange buoy and back to beach), transition to running shoes and run to the Kinsale bridge and back, approximately 1.8km. The event is wetsuit only so please don’t ask to compete in togs! We expect anyone entering to have the swim competence to be able to swim the 500m in open water. There will be some kayak safety but we ask that only those competent at 500m or more to enter.
There will be a BBQ and social chat after the event. There is no charge to enter but we will have some collection buckets around and ask for contributions to this worthy cause.
We are asking CTC members to maybe bring something sweet or a salad to help out with the BBQ. This is a great cause, the aquathons are always great fun and with all of the other local tri-clubs showing a keen interest it is an opportunity to get together in a semi-competitive atmosphere, with a social element after and compare war stories. As many of you know Jason has a very personal interest in this cause and it would be great to show huge support.
Looking forward to seeing as many people as possible down to help or compete, should be a great evening to kick off our season of aquathons.
