After a beautiful day on Wednesday, Thursday evening was not nearly as nice for our first Aquathon of the season, with a strong and cold easterly breeze off the sea. This made conditions quite choppy and cold but we had a nice group of 23 people. These are informal events and as can be seen from the results sheet people do whatever suits them on the evening (some just did 1 lap swims, some 1 lap runs). The route was 2 laps around the swim pontoon at the Dock Beach (approx 750m) and then 2 laps of the run to the Bridge Junction (approx 4km). Of course someone stole the cone that was left at the junction, for the next one we will paint the road! Kevin Sweeney was first home with Paddy Murphy just holding off Ivan Kelleher for second, this was an intensely fought battle! Erin Reidy was first woman home with Ita Kirwin in second. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better for the next one on June 25th again at the dock.
