Stop and Go Try-a-Tri —- Juniors Welcome; Sunday May 10th

Dock-Beach-KinsaleCork Tri is holding their annual Try a Tri at the Dock Beach in Kinsale at 4:00pm on Sunday May 10th.  To get to the beach take a left turn immediately after the bridge heading west from Kinsale, at the end of the road there is a small path through the car park to the right of the pub, to the beach .  The event will step through all of the elements of a triathlon one by one, with a short talk on each one.  This will also be our official introduction to the open water for the 2015 season.  As can be seen from out FaceBook page some of our hardier members have been going into the sea at Sandycove all winter, this will be an opportunity for the rest of us to hit the waves.  As well as beginners we are appealing to more experienced members to come along and support the event and provide support, particularly for the swim.  Any club members who can supply some kayak support are also very welcome and should try to let any committee member know in advance.  Prospective club members are also welcome but will have to sign a disclaimer form prior to participating.  As mentioned above, juniors (14-18) are welcome but the disclaimer must be signed by a parent prior to the event.  The transition talks will be given by our most experienced international triathlete, Trevor Woods. The format for the day is as follows:

Welcome and introduction

Swim briefing

Swim (this will be short about 300m)

Transition Briefing

Transition 1 (Swim to Bike)

Short bike spin(Approximately 10km)

Transition 2 briefing

Transition 2 (Bike to run)

Run briefing

Short Run (Approximately 2km)

BBQ (Weather permitting)

Even though the programme looks long all of the individual elements are short and the total event should not take much longer than 1 hour.  Anyone intending to partake should be capable of completing the swim distance comfortably.  Wetsuits must be worn, absolutely no exceptions!

Other things to bring:

Swim cap, brightly coloured if possible, multiple hats will help with the inevitable “brain freeze”.  If you have a neoprene hat, wear it!


Bike Helmet (No exceptions)

Run shoes

Suitable clothing (Trisuit, plus something warmer for the bike and run)

Spare tubes

Warm dry clothing for the BBQ (It is only May)
