CTC at Blarney Cycle Races
Strong performance today from CTC members taking part in the Blarney road race. A tough “but fair” 80km course made up of 2 laps of a 40km route. Lots of short sharp hills and climbing for the first half followed by fast descending & flats back into Blarney. Low temps & a high chill factor meant a few extra layers were needed to stay warm.
Donncha, Owen, Ciaran & Peter took part in the A4 race. The hills took their toll on the second lap round, breaking up the bunch. Ciaran showed good form on the day and managed to hold onto the lead group, stayed with them to finish & was in the sprint for the line. Owen, Donncha and Peter were working hard in the chasing group.
Solid performance by Adrian who took part in the A3 race, where the overall pace was a step up again. He managed to stick with the lead group and finish in the pack.
No top 10 finishers for CTC today but they’re not done yet & with more & more CTC members turning up to races each week the standard is improving. The overall bike race fitness of the group is very strong, with those new to bike racing after shaking off early race jitters. People are learning fast, starting to get race smart and pick up a few race tactics. Also need to do something about Owen’s base layer!!
Well done to everyone
